2048 Daily board

Every daily board is generated from that day’s UTC date and nothing else. The date becomes the seed for the same random-number generator the game always uses, so the entire spawn stream — which square each new tile lands on, and whether it is a 2 or a 4 — is fixed before anyone plays it.

Nothing is fetched from a server and no account is involved. Two people on opposite sides of the world open the page and derive the identical board from the calendar.

Board numbering starts at Daily #1 on 1 January 2026, so the number on the board is simply how many days have passed since then.

The board changes at 00:00 UTC, not at your local midnight. That is 8am in Singapore, 1am in London during summer time, and 7pm the previous evening in New York.

Whatever your timezone, the change happens at the same instant for everybody. There is no rolling window and no per-player clock, which is what keeps the comparison fair.

Your streak counts consecutive UTC days on which you played the daily board. Playing today’s board when you also played yesterday’s adds one; playing after a gap starts you again at one.

• Replaying the same day does not add to the streak — only a new day counts.
• A streak stays alive until you miss a whole day: it still shows while yesterday is your most recent board, and drops to zero once that is no longer true.
• Streaks live in this browser’s local storage, so they are per-device. Clearing site data clears the streak.

Sharing a result copies your score, an image of the final board, and a link back to the game. Because the board was the same for everyone that day, a shared score is a claim somebody else can actually try to beat on identical tiles.

On devices without a share sheet, the result is copied to your clipboard as text — score, then the final grid drawn out row by row.

A normal 2048 run mixes decisions with luck, so one good score proves very little. The daily removes the luck from the comparison: everyone drew the same tiles, so a score gap is a decision gap.

That makes it the honest way to test whether a habit is helping. Play the same board twice — once however you normally play, once keeping the largest tile pinned in a corner — and the difference is the habit, not the dice.
